Thunder RP V1: The End

Thunder RP V1: The End was a one-night scripted event on Thunder RP: players walk out of a concert straight into a government siege, a UFO attack, a character living out his own solo storyline aboard a TARDIS, and a missile strike that closes out the night.

An interrupted concert

Players were originally gathered at the Maze Bank Arena for a concert when, at 9:10 PM, the first cutscene kicks in.

Right after, the government asks everyone to regroup in front of the government building. A few minutes later, the Palmer-Taylor power plant explodes. Then, near the government building where the crowd has since gathered, a plane crashes.

The UFO attacks

At 9:40 PM, a UFO opens fire on the government building itself, setting it ablaze and forcing everyone into military trucks headed for Vinewood radio.

Everyone, except the Doc. He had arrived before the plane crash, so instead of boarding a truck with the others, he heads off on his own, aboard his TARDIS, toward Vinewood radio.

A lone traveler in a TARDIS

The TARDIS itself started life as a Garry's Mod Workshop model, which the team converted and rebuilt into a working FiveM prop, complete with its own destination console.

A stop at Vinewood radio

Everyone regroups at Vinewood radio. The Doc arrives after the rest of the group, who came by truck. From there, everyone watches the attacks unfolding across the city from a distance - explosions lighting up the sky.

Heading to Zancudo

An order comes through on the radio: Fort Zancudo is clear. Everyone heads there, with a flashback cutscene playing over the radio during the trip:

Flashback: the attack on Zancudo

The missile

At Zancudo, the Doc reaches the missile silo and tries to stop the launch. He fails - and the TARDIS, alarms blaring, lands straight in a bunker on the Zancudo base, where the rest of the group has already taken shelter alongside the soldiers stationed there.

The missile launches anyway, and goes wrong: the Doc's failed attempt threw off its trajectory, sending it back toward the base itself. No one in the bunker knows it yet.

The alien object, right before it gets shot

Inside the bunker, a strange green object starts making noise. A soldier - not exactly the sharpest - points his weapon at it and fires. That shot is what fractures Thunder RP's current universe, and the night cuts to the credits.

A month of preparation

Like with Thunder Z, none of this was improvised on the night itself. The team spent nearly a month on it:

  • A full hour-by-hour script covering every cutscene, every alarm, every radio cue, synced to players' actual positions.
  • Converting the Garry's Mod TARDIS model into an in-game prop with a working console and destination system, for the Doc's solo storyline.
  • Scripting the entire missile sequence: the silo interaction, the failed shutdown attempt, and the botched launch.
  • Timing the evacuation, the stop at Vinewood, and the "Zancudo clear" announcement so the whole server moved forward together.

A couple of dev anecdotes worth mentioning: the end credits are literally just a video file placed and played like any other cutscene, and the scrolling credits text is a single PNG, stretched across 2560x16264 pixels, scrolled for the entire length of the video. Basic hack, but it works.

Thunder RP V1: The End was a night built entirely around timing - cutscenes, radio cues, and a parallel TARDIS storyline, all synced down to the botched missile that closed out the night.
